Before your teeth whitening procedure, your dentist will take a full dental history to ensure your suitability as a candidate. Not all people are candidates for teeth whitening. Patients with extreme tooth sensitivity, TMJ and other jaw issues may experience discomfort during and after the procedure. Your procedure will begin with a protective gel or rubber shield being applied to your teeth. A dental bleach or other whitening agent is then applied to your teeth. In some cases, laser treatments may also be used during this process to enhance your results.
After your teeth whitening procedure, you’ll need to avoid coffee, tea and other hot drinks for at least two days. Consuming these drinks immediately after your procedure may damage the whitening agents and reduce the effects of the procedure. Overly cold beverages and foods can have a similar effect.
