COVID-19 Update

Please note that all forms of cosmetic dentistry are prohibited under the current Australian Dental Association COVID-19 restrictions. As such, we are unable to administer teeth whitening procedures at the clinic during this time. However, we are selling take-home teeth whitening packs which come with custom-made trays.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure which alters the colour and appearance of your teeth. There are different ways in which teeth whitening procedures are administered including dental bleaching, gel applications and laser enhancement. Teeth whitening is not a permanent dental procedure although you will see results after only one treatment. You should also be aware that teeth whitening will only work on extrinsic tooth stains – those which have not yet penetrated the tooth itself. Dental bleaching can reverse some of the effects of poor dental hygiene and staining. However, the effects will not be as effective on intrinsic stains such as those found on dead teeth. Phung Tran Dental Clinic offers a range of advanced teeth whitening procedures and your technician will discuss your options during your appointment.

Why would you need teeth whitening?

Like all forms of cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening is an elective procedure which you may choose to have for a variety of reasons. Preparing for a wedding or special occasion on the horizon or perhaps you’ve been unhappy with the colour of your teeth and you’ve finally decided to do something about it. At Phung Tran Dental Clinic, we just want to give you the smile and confidence that you deserve.

What happens during my procedure?

Before your teeth whitening procedure, your dentist will take a full dental history to ensure your suitability as a candidate. Not all people are candidates for teeth whitening. Patients with extreme tooth sensitivity, TMJ and other jaw issues may experience discomfort during and after the procedure. Your procedure will begin with a protective gel or rubber shield being applied to your teeth. A dental bleach or other whitening agent is then applied to your teeth. In some cases, laser treatments may also be used during this process to enhance your results.

What happens after my procedure?

After your teeth whitening procedure, you’ll need to avoid coffee, tea and other hot drinks for at least two days. Consuming these drinks immediately after your procedure may damage the whitening agents and reduce the effects of the procedure. Overly cold beverages and foods can have a similar effect. You may feel some pain and increase tooth sensitivity after your procedure. Please contact the clinic if these symptoms last longer than three days.
